Our President, Viccy Grace, was contacted by our former Ward councillor at the beginning of September to discuss a new idea for the CBE school lot currently occupied by Chinook Learning on 28th Avenue. It was in the initial thought stages, and involved Inn from the Cold relocating their current facility to that site.

Our President then met with Inn from the Cold Director, Abe Brown, and the consultant for the project, John Mar, to discuss the proposal.  It was in very high-level detail as no Development Plan had yet been completed. The proposal involves knocking down the current school and constructing a new building, in addition to town-houses for short-term housing support. Inn from the Cold desires its facility to be in a community, rather than its current downtown location, so that the families can better integrate into a neighbourhood. The society plans to explore ways to partner with Erlton residents, too (be that a community garden, or daycare etc.)

The recommendations resulting from that meeting included that Inn from the Cold consider how the proposed facility could integrate with the community (they would be taking away our Community Association’s one revenue source of Stampede Parking) in ways beneficial to both the Inn and Erlton. Another recommendation was to discuss with our Planning Director, Bill Fischer, the features to be taken into consideration in the facility design.

After meeting with our Planning Director, Inn from the Cold composed the attached letter, which we agreed would be circulated to our community for comments.

Please send your comments to planning@erltoncommunity.com before Thursday, November 23rd for inclusion in our report back to Inn from the Cold.
